FAQ

What is Botox?

Botox is the trade name for a substance called Botulinum Toxin type A.  This substance can also be referred to as a neuromodulator or wrinkle-relaxer, trade names such as Botox/Xeomin/Dysport.  In small doses, this injected substance works by temporarily preventing muscles from contracting, thus, reducing muscle activity that causes persistent lines to form on the face and neck.  This treatment is a low discomfort, non-surgical procedure and should be administered by a qualified healthcare professional

How does it work?

In small amounts, called units, wrinkle relaxers, such as Botox, are injected into muscle.   Using the smallest syringe and needle (insulin syringe) the product works by temporarily blocking the communication between the nerve and the muscle, preventing the muscles that cause wrinkles from contracting.  Botox safely and effectively smooths and softens the lines giving a rested, younger appearance.  The lines that form from repeated facial expressions, the dynamic lines such as the “eleven” or frown lines and forehead lines are smoothed.  Softening crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes and lifting the brow and decreasing a drooping eyelid also gives a more rested younger appearance.  Other areas requested for treatment, bunny lines, gummy smile, dimpled chin, and downturned lips. Effects of treatment are usually seen in the first 7 days with full effect at day 14.  The results can last on average between 3-6 months. On average clients have 3-4 sessions in a year.  These time frames can be slightly different client to client. The product will wear off and muscle movement will be regained in the treated areas.

How much does it cost?

Cost depends on how many units in total are required for the areas that you want treated.  Again, everyone requires different amounts based on the strength of their muscles and frequency of muscle use (how you animate), and intensity of their dynamic lines (lines formed when the muscles move).  Other factors such as age, gender, number of previous treatments, and muscle anatomy will also determine the cost. The areas to be treated and the cost is determined during a free consult with medical professionals. Our team will consult ahead of time to advise you on the correct treatment plan for your optimal results.

Is your injector a trained expert?

In Canada, only licensed, medical professionals such as nurses and doctors have legal authority to administer procedures such as Botox and dermal fillers. Consider questions for your injector to include: Where were you trained and how do you stay current with the latest products and injection techniques?

Is the environment safe?

Cosmetic procedures such as wrinkle reducing treatments are medical procedures and come with risks. Assessing the sterility of the injecting environment is imperative. Your medical history and any medications you may be taking will be reviewed by the clinic’s physician (referred to as our Medical Director). The MD will determine your suitability for cosmetic injections and that you are made fully aware of any potential risks beforehand.

Will the Botox leave me frozen and expressionless?

Botox works by relaxing muscle movement. It is injected into specific muscles of the face causing the muscles to stay relaxed, which reduces the severity and frequency of lines and wrinkle formation in the skin. “Frozen face” is caused by practitioners administering an excessive number of Botox units and this is easily avoidable if you go to a licensed health care professional with the proper expertise and training. When administered correctly, Botox will appear natural and will go unnoticed by others!!! The same you ….only smoother and refreshed!!!
